An In-Field Look at Boosting Peanut Yields

For growers, every decision is a balance between performance and practicality. Finding solutions that improve nitrogen use efficiency, mitigate plant stress and optimize yield potential is the goal; however, these solutions must also be efficient and easy to use. A ready-to-use liquid formulation that can be easily added to a tank mix saves time and labor, providing a clear operational advantage.

OPTRIENT™ MoCo-Ni is a foliar nutrient designed to deliver on both fronts. It provides a targeted blend of key micronutrients — molybdenum, cobalt and nickel — that support plant health while also being easy to apply.

“What we're trying to do with our OPTRIENT product is make the plant healthier,” said John McElveen, a territory business manager for Koch Agronomic Services (KAS). “When you make it healthier, you have better nitrogen efficiency, and that's going to lead to a better yield in the end.”

Beyond its agronomic benefits, the product was designed with the grower's operation in mind.

“It's a ready-to-use formulation. You don't have to worry about mixing different products — they’re already in the jug. It just makes it a lot easier on the grower,” McElveen explained.

Recent data from a North Carolina peanut trial reinforces the value of this approach. A 2024 study1 showed that:

  • OPTRIENT MoCo-Ni applied twice at 4 oz./acre numerically increased yield by 300 lbs/acre.
  • OPTRIENT MoCo-Ni applied twice at 8 oz./acre numerically increased yield by 319 lbs/acre.

Watch the video above to see John McElveen walk through the peanut trial and discuss the importance of plant health and nutrient use efficiency. These peanut results directly translate to the value and performance OPTRIENT delivers in row crops.

1The underlying data was provided by Severn Peanut under a Research Trial Financial Support Agreement with Koch Agronomic Services, LLC. Neither these institutions, nor the individual researchers referenced, endorse or recommend any product or service. Improvements in yield and nutrient use efficiency may not be observed in all cases.
